(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 19) - The William Woods University volleyball team was pushed to five sets against visiting Hannibal-LaGrange College on Monday night in Anderson Arena. The Owls came away the American Midwest Conference victory and improve to 20-5 overall, 10-2 in the AMC.

 

Points were tough to come by for both teams Monday night. Long rallies and great defensive plays made the match an instant classic.

 

Hannibal-LaGrange (15-17, 7-7) won the first set 25-21. William Woods cruised to a victory in the second set. The Owls took command early and often in the 25-14 win. Hannibal-LaGrange battled back to take the third set 25-22. In the fourth set, the Owls took command again and won 25-15.

 

The final set of the match went back-and-forth to an 11-11 tie. The Owls rallied to take the next four points, and the match.

 

Senior Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) recorded a team-high 46 digs in the WWU win. Senior Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) had 19, and 18, kills respectively. Junior Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) had a team-high 34 assist for William Woods.

 

The Owls have now won 11 straight matches, and 17 of its last 19. William Woods was among other receiving votes in last week's NAIA Top 25 ranking. This week's rankings will be released on Tuesday.

 

The Owls will return to action on October 21st. They will travel to Park University for another AMC match-up. The match will begin at 7 pm in Parkville, Mo.
