(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 15) - The William Woods University volleyball team won both ends of its tri-match on Thursday night in Anderson Arena. In the first match of the night, the Owls defeated American Midwest Conference foe Stephens College 3-0 by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13. In the late match, William Woods swept past Missouri Valley College 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-13.

 

The Owls, who were among other receiving votes in this week's NAIA Top 25, had little trouble with the Stars in the first match of the evening. Sophomore Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) had a team-high nine kills in the win. Junior Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) added eight kills for the Owls. Junior Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) had an exceptional match for the Owls. Dougherty recorded 19 assists and three service aces in the victory. Senior Sky Wade (Licking, Mo.), who leads the American Midwest Conference in digs, added 16 more to her total.

 

With the AMC victory, the Owls improve to 9-2 in AMC play. Stephens College falls to 4-19 on the season, 2-9 in the AMC.

 

Senior Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was lights-out for the Owls in the final match of the evening. Olin recorded a double-double for WWU in the 3-0 win over Missouri Valley College. Olin tallied 15 kills and 19 digs. Many of her kills came on sets from Dougherty. She added a team-high 20 assists in the victory. Wade was clutch again for William Woods in the second match. She recorded 28 digs in the win. Fleming and senior Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) each added eight kills for the Owls.

 

William Woods is now 19-5 on the season. They have won 10 consecutive matches, and 16 of their last 18. Missouri Valley falls to 9-15 on the year.

 

The Owls will return to action on October 19th. They will host Hannibal-LaGrange College in an AMC match-up at 7 pm in Anderson Arena.
