Amazing Comeback For Owls
(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., Sept. 22) - The William Woods University volleyball team earned a come-from-behind victory to collect its second American Midwest Conference victory on Tuesday night. The Owls rallied to defeat William Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Ark., 3-2.
William Woods lost the first set 25-20, and the second set 26-24. Williams Baptist was serving 25-24 in the third set, and had match-point twice, but were unable to put away the Owls. William Woods took the third set 30-28.
The emotional third set win propelled the Owls to a 25-17 win in the fourth set to even the match. WWU then rolled to a 15-8 victory in the final set to complete the comeback.
Senior Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a team-high 16 kills in the win for the Owls. Senior Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) added 10 kills for the Owls. Junior Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman Emily Nolte (Higginsville, Mo.) recorded 24, and 18, assists respectively. Senior Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) tallied a team-high 29 digs.
Williams Baptist falls to 7-5 on the season, and 0-3 in the AMC. William Woods improves to 10-5 on the year, and 2-2 in the AMC. The Owls will travel to AMC rival McKendree University on Friday. The Owls and Bearcats will play at 7 pm in Lebanon, Ill.
