2008 Softball Coaching Staff
Tracy Gastineau

Tracy Gastineau became the Head Softball Coach at William Woods in 1998 following one year as the Owls Assistant Coach.  Coach Gastineau graduated from William Woods in 1993 with a degree in accounting.  In 1998, she earned her Masters degree in Education Curriculum from William Woods.

Coach Gastineau led the Owls a the Region V Championship in 2005 and 2006 and was named Region V Coach of the Year. The Owls' qualified for the 2005 and 2006 NAIA National Championship and finished the season ranked 13th in the nation. Coach Gastineau was named American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year in 1998, her first season as skipper. She was also selected AMC Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006. Coach Gastineau was also the 1998 NFCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year.

While attending William Woods University, Tracy was an outstanding

athlete.  She received softball all-conference honors in both 1992 and 1993.  During those same years she was honored as an NAIA Softball All-American Scholar-Athlete. Tracy also was an All-District performer on the Owls' basketball squad during her senior year.

Coach Gastineau attended New Bloomfield High School in New Bloomfield, Mo.  There she received many honors in both basketball and softball.  She was an all-state selection in basketball in 1988 and 1989.  She earned all-district and all-conference honors three of her four years in both basketball and softball.

When asked her views on coaching, Coach Gastineau said, “I believe that coaching is a challenging profession that requires dedication, knowledge, commitment, and genuine concern for student-athletes.  I strive to help my players not only to be successful on the playing field, but also in the classroom and in life.  Every coach and team has different strategies for success.  The foundation of my philosophy is a good work ethic and a genuine love for the game.  I believe that without those two things, not even the best athlete will come close to achieving her potential."

In her spare time, Tracy enjoys softball, basketball, and golf.

Michelle Schaper joined the Owls' Athletic Staff in 2005, becoming an assistant coach for the William Woods Softball program. Schaper joined the coaching ranks after a four-year career as a standout for the Owls from 2002-2005.

Schaper is a familiar face at WWU, she was an All-American Midwest Conference selection each of her four seasons with William Woods.  Michelle also garnered all-region status in NAIA Region V three times and was a second team NAIA All-American in 2003.

Michelle finished her career with totals of 235 hits, 43 doubles, 18 home runs, 169 runs, 164 runs batted in, and a .351 batting average in 669 at bats.

Schaper earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training from William Woods, with a minor in Sports Management.  She is

currently pursuing a Master's of Education Degree in Athletics Administration and Activities at William Woods University.  Schaper is also the Head Softball Coach at North Callaway High School. Her 2007 squad finished second at the 3A Missouri State Softball Championships. During her two years at North Callaway, Schaper has amassed a 45-7 record.

Laura Goldstein

Laura Goldstein joined the Owls' Athletic Staff in 2007, becoming an assistant coach for the William Woods Softball program. Goldstein joined the coaching ranks after finishing her collegiate career at University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Goldstein played her senior season at UNC-Pembroke, where she was a team captain and voted the team's Defensive MVP as starting shortstop and pitcher.  Prior to UNC-Pembroke, she spent one season with Virginia Intermont College.  At VIC, Goldstein was an all-conference and all-region selection as a third baseman and pitcher.

Goldstein played junior college softball at Young Harris College in Georgia prior to Virginia Intermont.  She was a two-time all-conference selection in her two seasons at Young Harris.  Goldstein was also named to the regional All-Tournament team as a

sophomore in 2004 and named the tournament's MVP as a freshman in 2003.  She helped the Mountain Lions finish ninth in the nation with a 31-13 record in 2004.

Goldstein is continuing her education and pursuing a Master's of Education Degree in Athletics Administration and Activities at William Woods University.
