Phil Guidry Competes at Nationals
(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., May 21) - Senior Phil Guidry (Lafayette, La.) was the lone member of the William Woods University men's outdoor track team to compete at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor National Championships at Ralph Korte Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill.
Guidry ran in the 10,000 Meter Run on Thursday evening. He finished 23rd in a field of 29 runners. Guidry finished with a time of 33:12.39. His time is the third fastest 10k time in William Woods University history. Guidry now owns the top three times in the 10,000 Meter Run. Aron Rono (Azusa Pacific) won the event with a time of 30:23.70.
This was Guidry's second National Championship event.
Guidry also qualified for the 2008 NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

Track Heads to Nationals
(FULTON, Mo., May 20) - Two members of the William Woods University outdoor track team will head to the 2009 NAIA Outdoor National Championships this week. Kristi Palmer and Phil Guidry will compete at the National Championships beginning on May 21st at Ralph Korte Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill.

Men's Track Finished 4th at AMC Championships
(LEBANON, Ill., May 2)--The William Woods University men's outdoor track team finished fourth at the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Track Championships this weekend. McKendree University won the event for the second straight year.
Phil Guidry (Lafayette, La.) won the 10,000 Meter Run for the Owls. Guidry defeated the five-man field with a time of 32:10.51. His time set a new AMC Championship record. It was also a personal record, and qualified him for the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track National Championships. The NAIA's final event will be held in Edwardsville, Ill., May 21-23.
Mike Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) also competed in the 10,000 Meter Run for William Woods. Nedeau finished fourth with a time of 36:28.86.
Corey DeVore (Chariton, Iowa) and Cody Cole (Ava, Mo.) competed in the 200 Meter Dash for the Owls. DeVore finished 13th with a time of 24.36. Cole finished 14th with a time of 25.18.
Cole also competed in the 400 Meter Dash and 800 Meter Run for William Woods. Cole finished fifth out of 12 entries in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 51.70. He finished 7th in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:01.55.
DeVore also competed in the 400 Meter Hurdles for the Owls. DeVore finished sixth with a time of 59.69.
Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) ran in two events for WWU. Ramirez finished sixth in the 1500 Meter Run with a time of 4:15.92. He finished fourth in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 16:16.48.
Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) competed in two field events for William Woods. Simms finished 15th in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.83 meters. Simms finished fourth in a field of 14 in the Javelin. Simms had a long throw of 38.47 meters. His throw in the Javelin was a personal record.

Guidry Breaks Record at UCM
(WARRENSBURG, Mo., April 18)--The William Woods University men's outdoor track team competed in its fourth outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Warrensburg, Mo., and competed in the University of Central Missouri Relays.
Senior Phil Guidry (Lafayette, La.) competed in the 10,000 Meter Run for the Owls. Guidry finished fifth in a field of 14 runners. He finished with a time of 32:43.72. His time is a season best and a new William Woods school record. Guidry broke the record held by Daniel Gale (33:50.92 in 2006). Laban Sialo (University of Central Missouri) won the event with a time of 31:15.96.
Freshman Cody Cole (Ava, Mo.) competed in the 800 Meter Run for William Woods. Cole finished 27th in a field of 33 runners with a time of 2:06.09. Nathan Carr (Iowa Wesleyan College) won the event with a time of 1:53.89.
Junior Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) and freshman Michael Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) each ran in the 5000 Meter Run for the Owls. Ramirez finished fourth in the field of 18 runners with a time of 15:53.02. Nedeau finished 13th with a time of 16:57.37. Anthony Schulz (University of Central Missouri) won the even with a time of 15:27.89.
Junior Corey DeVore (Chariton, Iowa) competed in two events for the Owls. DeVore finished 16th in a field of 24 runners in the 400 Meter Hurdles. DeVore finished the event with a time of 1:00.04. Anthony Cooper (University of Central Missouri) won the event with a time of 53.2. DeVore also competed in the 200 Meter Dash. He finished 28th in the event with a time of 25.37.
Sophomore Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) competed in the lone field event for WWU. Simms finished 18th in the Javelin Throw. Simms finished with a long throw of 32.19 meters.
The Owls will return to action on April 25th at the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Relays.

Men's Track Competes at Central Methodist
(FAYETTE, Mo., April 10)--The William Woods University men's outdoor track team competed in its third outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Fayette, Mo., and competed in the Central Methodist University - Asics Invitational.
Freshman Cody Cole (Ava, Mo.) competed in two events for the Owls. Cole broke his own school record in the 400 Meter Dash. He finished seventh out of 18 runners with a time of 51.30. Cole established the record last week at the William Jewell Invitational with a time of 51.82. He also competed in the 800 Meter Run. Cole broke the William Woods University school record with a time of 1:55.64. The school record had been held by Jerald Ogden (1:58.02 in 2005). Cole finished second out of 24 runners in the event.
Three Owls competed in the 5000 Meter Run for William Woods. Senior Phil Guidry (Lafayette, La.) finished second out of 13 entries with a time of 15:31.61. His time breaks the WWU school record held by Lucas Breneman (15:33.69 in 2008). Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Michael Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) finished third and 10th respectively for the Owls. Ramirez finished the race with a time of 15:34.02, Nedeau ran a time of 16:53.37. Ramirez is now third all-time in the event at William Woods.
Junior Cory DeVore established a William Woods school record in the 400 Meter Hurdles. DeVore finished eighth out of 11 runners with a time of 1:00.28.
Sophomore Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) competed in the Javelin for the Owls. He finished sixth in the event with a throw of 26.89 meters.
Devore, Guidry Simms, and Cole competed in the 4x400 Meter Relay. They finished sixth in the event and set a new WWU record with a time of 3:40.04.
The Owls will return to action on April 17th at the University of Central Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo.

Men's Track Competes at William Jewell
(LIBERTY, Mo., April 4)--The William Woods University men's outdoor track team competed in its second outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Liberty, Mo., and competed in the Darrell Gourley Meet at William Jewell College.
Freshman Cody Cole (Ava, Mo.) had a record setting day at the meet. In a field of 27 runners, Cole finished 10th in the 400 Meter Dash, and established a William Woods school record with a time of 51.82. Cole also competed in the 800 Meter Run. He finished fifth in a field of 27 runners with a time of 2:03.05. His time in the 800 Meter puts him third all-time at WWU behind Jerald Ogden (1:58.02 in 2005), and Lucas Breneman (1:59.32 in 2006).
Another school record fell in the Javelin. Sophomore Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) shattered the previous school record held by Daniel Gale (105'05.00 in 2008) with a throw of 120'04.00. Simms finished 10th in the event. He also competed in the 200 Meter Dash and the 400 Meter Dash. Simms finished 22nd in the 200 Meter with a time of 25.89. He finished 24th in the 400 with a time of 56.16.
Junior Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) and freshman Michael Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) each competed for the Owls in the 5000 Meter Run. Ramirez finished fourth in a field of 15 runners with a time of 16:40.48. Nedeau finished seventh with a time of 17:23.31.
Junior Corey DeVore (Chariton, Iowa) ran in two events for WWU. DeVore finished 20th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 24.90. He finished 22nd in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 56.16.
The WWU outdoor team will return to the track on April 10th at the Central Methodist University Invitational in Fayette, Mo.

Outdoor Track Season Opens
(COLUMBIA, Mo., March 27)--The William Woods University outdoor track teams opened the 2009 season on Friday afternoon at the 10th Annual University of Missouri Relays. The Owls battled tough conditions, and a strong field, in its first outdoor meet of the season.
The WWU women's team was led by freshman Cheryl Held (Wildwood, Mo.). Held competed in her first 10,000 Meter Run. She responded by finishing 4th in a field of seven runners. Held finished with a time of 38:55.60. Lisa Lewis (unattached) won the event with a time of 37:33.86. Held's time met the NAIA National Outdoor qualification B standard. It was 10 seconds off an automatic qualification to the National Championships. Held shattered the WWU school record (40:42.60 by Jessica Bollinger in 2008) by over a minute.
Junior Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) competed in the Javelin for WWU. Edens finished sixth in a field of 17 with a combined throw of 95-06 feet. Kimoya Harriott (University of Missouri-Kansas City) won the event with a combined throw of 121-01 feet.
Edens also competed in the 200 Meter Dash for William Woods. She finished the event with a time of 30.34.
On the men's side, junior Corey DeVore (Chariton, Iowa) competed in the 200 Meter Dash for William Woods. DeVore finished the event with a time of 24.31. Sophomore Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) also competed in the 200 Meter Dash for the Owls. Simms finished the race with a time of 25.90. Ryan Blackwell (University of Missouri) won the race with a time of 21.85.
Two Owls competed in the 5000 Meter Run. Junior Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Freshman Michael Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) battled frigid conditions and a large field (48 runners) in Columbia, Mo. Ramirez finished the event with a time of 16:16.16. At this time, an official time for Nedeau is unavailable. Leydon Tolhurst (Drake University) won the event with a time of 14:54.73.
The men's and women's track team will return to action on April 4th at the
Darrell Gourley Meet in Liberty, Mo.

Men's Track Competes at Mizzou
(COLUMBIA, Mo., Feb. 20 & 21)--The William Woods University men's indoor track team competed at the University of Missouri on Friday and Saturday.
The Owls competed in the University of Missouri Collegiate Challenge on Friday in the Hearnes Fieldhouse. Junior Corey DeVore competed in the 400 meter dash for the Owls. He finished 13th with a time of 55.07. His time establishes a new William Woods University school record.
Sophomore Justin Simms also competed for the Owls in the 400 meter dash. Simms finished 15th in the event with a time of 57.49.
Senior Phil Guidry competed in the mile run for William Woods. Guidry finished in sixth place with a time of 4:31.54.
Freshman Cody Cole finished 7th in the 600 yard dash on Friday night. Cole finished with a time of 1:17.51.
At this time, complete totals from Friday's Collegiate Challenge are not available. We will post a more detailed recap of the meet as soon as possible.
DeVore and Simms returned to the Hearnes Fieldhouse Saturday and competed in the University of Missouri All-Comers Indoor Meet. Both competed in the 200 meter dash. DeVore finished third in the event with a time of 24.95. Simms was disqualified for a lane violation.
This concludes the indoor track season for William Woods. The Owls will open the 2009 outdoor season on March 21st at the Central Methodist University Open.

Men's Track Competes at Wildcat Invitational
(MARION, Ind., Feb. 14)--The William Woods University men's track team competed in the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. With only four athletes competing, the Owls finished 13th out of 16 teams.
Junior Emmanuel Ramirez posted a season best in two events for the Owls. In a field of 20 runners, Ramirez finished 5th in the Mile Run. He finished the race with a time of 4:34.31. Ramirez also competed in the 800 Meter Run. He finished 15th in a field of 24 runners with a time of 2:07.18.
Freshman Cody Cole competed in the 800 Meter Run for the Owls. Cole finished 5th in the event, and ran a season best 2:01.4.
Senior Phil Guidry earned points for the Owls in the 3000 Meter Run. Guidry finished 8th in the event with a time of 9:15.16. Guidry finished 8th in a field of 28 runners.
Senior Brent Almand completed a good day for the Owls by finishing 3rd in the 5000 Meter Run. Almand finished the race with a time of 15:42.77. He finished 3rd in a field of 22 runners.

Men's Track Competes at Mule Relays
(WARRENSBURG, Mo., Feb. 7)-- The William Woods University men's track team competed in the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo., this weekend.
Junior Corey DeVore competed in the 400 Meter Dash for William Woods. He finished 29th in a field of 36 runners. DeVore ran a personal best of 55.14. He eclipsed his personal best by over a second.
Freshman Cody Cole finished 10th in the 800 Meter Run for the Owls. Cole finished with a time of 2:01.42.
Junior Emmanuel Ramirez competed in two events for WWU. He finished 24th in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:01.42. Ramirez also competed in the Mile Run. He finished 14th in a field of 32 runners with a time of 4:38.05.
Senior Phil Guidry competed in the 5000 Meter Run for William Woods. Guidry finished 15th in a field of 34 runners. He finished the event with a time of 16:21.42.
The Owls will return to the track on February 14th. The team will compete at the Indiana Wesleyan University Indoor Meet in Marion, Ind.

Men's Indoor Track Season Begins
(NORMAL, Ill., Jan. 31)--The William Woods University men's track team opened the 2009 season at the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open on Saturday.
The Owls finished 12th out of 19 teams.
Brent Almand, Phil Guidry, Cody Cole, and Corey DeVore all competed for the Owls in its opening meet.
Senior Brent Almand competed in the 3000 meter run. He took second place in a field of 46 runners. Almand finished with a time of 8:53.7. He finished .53 seconds behind Wally Farris (Illinois Wesleyan).
Senior Phil Guidry also competed in the 3000 meter run for William Woods. He finished in 11th place with a time of 9:20.48. He missed finishing in the top 10 by approximately 10 seconds.
Freshman Cody Cole competed in two events for the Owls. He finished 22nd in the 400 meter dash. In a field of 38 runners, Cole finished with a time of 54.82. He also competed in the 800 meter run. In a field of 51 runners, Cole finished 18th with a time of 2:05.85.
Junior Corey DeVore competed in two events for William Woods. He finished 58th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.34. He also finished 33rd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.73.
The Owls will return to the track on February 6th and 7th. They will travel to the University of Central Missouri and compete in the Mule Relays.
