WWU Tops Ottawa

Oliver DysonWWU Tops Ottawa

(OTTAWA, Kan., Sept. 15) - The William Woods University men’s soccer team earned a road victory at Ottawa University on Tuesday night in Ottawa, Kan.  The Owls defeated the Braves 3-1.

The Owls jumped on the Braves early in the match.  Senior Oliver Dyson (Newark, England) scored the first goal of the evening for WWU.  Dyson took an assist from Greg Baker (St. Peters, Mo.) and gave the Owls a 1-0 in the 25th minute.

Sophomore Martin Cheramie (Albi, France), and Junior Dirk Bauer (Kansas City, Mo.), added goals in the 37th, and 40th minute, to push the lead to 3-0 as the Owls went into halftime.  Senior Steve Brocks (Portsmouth, England) assisted on the goal by Bauer.  WWU outshot OU 13-5 in the opening half.

The Owls defense came up big several times.  Eric Ooton (Kansas City, Mo.) and Jimmy Hice (Cincinnati, Ohio) each made sliding saves in front of the goal for WWU.  Ooton’s came in the first half with the Owls leading 1-0.  Hice’s came in the second half with Owls leading 3-0.  Both were goal-saving plays.

The Braves had a chance to trim into the WWU lead late in the second half.  Colin Wylie scored on a penalty kick in the 81st minute to reduce the Owls lead to 3-1.  The Braves threw everyone forward the last several minutes.  Once again, the Owls defense was up to the task.

WWU improves to 3-2 on the season.  Ottawa falls to 1-3. The Owls will return to action on September 19th at Avila University.
