Soccer Wins 4-0
(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 9) - The William Woods University men's soccer team defeated visiting Culver-Stockton College 4-0 on Wednesday night at Firley Field.
WWU jumped on the scoreboard early in the first half. Junior Cory Herchenroeder (Ferguson, Mo.) took a pass from Ruben Ramirez (Miami, Fla.) and scored the first goal of the night less than two minutes into the match. The Owls continued to pressure the Wildcats throughout the first half. WWU outshot CSC 6-1 in the half, but could not add to its lead.
The Owls kept the pressure on in the second half. Junior Dirk Bauer (Kansas City, Mo.) added a goal in the 51st minute to push the lead to 2-0. Eric Ooton (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded an assist on the play. Ten minutes later, Herchenroeder tallied his second goal of the evening on an assist from Oliver Dyson (Newark, England). In the 71st minute, freshman Jimmy Hice (Cincinnati, Ohio) sealed the victory scoring on an assist from Zach Fox (Kansas City, Mo.).
William Woods outshot Culver-Stockton 19-3 on the evening; six of which were on goal.
Senior Nate Thackeray (Manchester, England) recorded his first shutout of the season for William Woods. CSC was unable to put any of its three shots on goal.
William Woods improves to 2-1 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, September 12th. The Owls will host Benedictine College at 7 pm at Firley Field. BC is among other receiving votes in this weeks NAIA Top 25 poll.
