Season Ends For Owls in Double Overtime
(HANNIBAL, Mo., Nov. 7)--The William Woods University men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Owls lost at Hannibal-LaGrange College 1-0 in double overtime.
With 23 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Dustin Freitag scored on a penalty kick to give the Trojans the AMC postseason tournament victory.
Hannibal-LaGrange recorded 27 shots in the win. The Trojans put 12 shots on goal in the match. William Woods had 13 shots in the loss; three on goal.
Freshman Robert Thibodeaux (Lafayette, La.) was exceptional in goal for the Owls. Thibodeaux recorded 11 saves in the loss.
WWU ends the 2009 season 11-6-1 on the year.
