Oliver Dyson3-0 Win For Owls

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 26)--The William Woods University men's soccer team earned an important American Midwest Conference victory at Firley Field on Monday night. The Owls defeated visiting Williams Baptist College 3-0.

 

WWU scored in the 21st minute of play to take the early 1-0 lead. Senior Oliver Dyson (Newark, England) found the inside corner of the left post on a throw-in from Eric Ooton (Kansas City, Mo.). It was the sixth goal of the season for Dyson. The Owls took a 1-0 lead into the half.

 

William Woods added its second goal in the 46th minute of play. Senior Pete Smith (St. Louis, Mo.) headed a ball past the diving goalie to push the lead to two. Smith scored on an assist from Dyson. Smith now has two goals on the year.

 

The Owls were on the receiving end of an own-goal in the 79th minute to complete the scoring.

 

William Woods outshot Williams Baptist College 22-6 in the win. The Owls had eight shots on goal, compared to one for the Eagles. Freshman Robert Thibodeaux (Lafayette, La.) recorded his fourth shutout of the season for William Woods. He recorded one save in the victory. Thibodeaux, and the Owls, have recorded three consecutive shutouts. They have four in their last five matches. WWU has won five of its last six matches. It's only loss came on October 19th against #13 McKendree University (1-0).

 

WBC falls to 2-10 overall, and 1-4 in the AMC. William Woods improves to 9-5-1 overall, 2-3 in league play. The Owls have cancelled their game on October 27th with Midland Lutheran College due to weather. They will return to action on October 31st against AMC rival Hannibal-LaGrange College. Kick-off is at 2 pm at Firley Field.
