Wilson Leads WWU to Victory
(CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa., Sept. 13) - The William Woods University men's golf team pulled away from the field on day two of the Cropper Classic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to secure its first victory of the season. Sophomore Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) brought home top honors for the Owls.
William Woods finished day one in a tie for first place with St. Ambrose University. The Owls shot an opening round 286 (-2). On the final day, WWU shot 290 (+2) and finished four strokes ahead of runner-up Illinois Wesleyan University to win the championship at the Hunter's Ridge Golf Club. Twenty teams comprised the tournament field.
Wilson shot rounds of 67 and 70 to win the individual championship. Wilson, the day one leader, finished -7 for the tournament. He finished one stroke ahead of Paul Colditz (Lindenwood University). The field consisted of 120 golfers.
WWU senior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) finished in a tie for 12th. Kovar shot rounds of 72 and 74 (+2).
William Woods will return to action on September 27-29th. The Owls will compete in the Lindenwood Invitational Tournament in St. Louis, Mo.
