Nick WilsonMen's Golf Completes Day Three at Nationals

(SILVIS, Ill., May 21) - The William Woods University men's golf team completed its third round at the 2009 NAIA National Championships at the TPC at John Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.  The Owls failed to make the final cut.  The top 17 teams advance to the final round Friday.  William Woods finished tied for 27th after three days. William Woods completes its second consecutive NAIA National Championship appearance.

The Owls shot an opening round 334, a second round 313, and a third round 311.  After three days, the Owls finished +106.  Oklahoma Christian College leads the field with rounds of 291, 298, and 293 (+30).  The final team to make the cut was Davenport University.  Davenport is +73 after three rounds.

Freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) was the highest finisher for the Owls.  Wilson finished tied for 103rd after three rounds.  Wilson shot rounds of 90, 79, and 70.

Kyle KovarMen's Golf Completes Day Two at Nationals

The Owls shot an opening round 334, and a second round 313.  After two days, the Owls are +79.  Oklahoma Christian College leads the field with rounds of 291 and 298 (+21).  William Woods is competing in its second consecutive NAIA National Championship.  

Junior Kyle Kovar leads the Owls after two days.  Kovar shot an opening round 81, and a second round 78.  He is tied for 90th at +17.  Axel Ochoa (Oklahoma Christian) leads the field with rounds of 69 and 70.  Ochoa is at -3 after two rounds.

2009 NAIA National ChampionshipsMen's Golf Heads To Nationals

(FULTON, Mo., May 18) - The William Woods University men's golf team is heading to the NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament. This year, the NAIA Championships will be held at the TPC Deere Run Golf Course in Silvis, Ill., May 19-22. The Owls are coming off their second straight American Midwest Conference Championship. The AMC victory two weeks ago at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia, Mo., gave WWU its second consecutive bid to the NAIA National Championships.

Nick WilsonMen's Golf Wins AMC Championships

(COLUMBIA, Mo., May 5) - The William Woods University men's golf team won its second consecutive American Midwest Conference championship on Tuesday.  The Owls won by three strokes over the University of Illinois-Springfield at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia, Mo.

Freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) won the tournament with rounds of 72-68-67 (207).  Wilson won the tournament by five strokes. For his efforts, Wilson was named AMC Freshman of the Year.

Head Coach Barry Doty received his second AMC Men's Coach of the Year of the Award.  Doty was also named the AMC Women's Coach of the Year.

Wilson and junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) were named to the All-AMC team.

William Woods advances to its second consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championships.  The National Tournament will be May 17-22 in Silvia, Ill., at the TPC Deer Run.

Kyle KovarMen's Golf Leads After Day One of AMC Championships

(COLUMBIA, Mo., May 4)-- The William Woods University men's golf team is in first place after day one of the American Midwest Conference Championships.  They lead McKendree University by six strokes.  WWU is attempting to repeat as AMC Champion, and earn its second consecutive trip to the NAIA National Championships.

The Owls played round one and two at the A.L. Gustin Course today. William Woods shot 286 and 284 for a two-round total of 570. McKendree University shot 282 and 294 for a two-round total of 576.

Individually, junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) are in second place.  The tandem is one stroke behind tournament leader Kyle Jasper (Missouri Baptist University).

The tournament will conclude tomorrow at the A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia, Mo.  The team champion, and the individual medalist, with earn an automatic bid to the 2009 NAIA National Championships at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois on May 17-22.

J.D. NashMen's Golf Finishes 13th at Western Illinois University

(Macomb, Ill., Apr. 21)--The William Woods University men's golf team finished 13th in an impressive field at the Western Illinois University Beu/Mussatto Invitational. The Tournament was stopped midway through the third day due to high winds that made the course unplayable.

The Owls shot a two-day total of 324-319 for a +67 for the tournament. South Dakota State University won the two-day tournament. SDSU shot 300-300 for a +24 for the tournament.

Freshman J.D. Nash (Newburg, Mo.) led the Owls with rounds of 77-83. Nash Finished 41st in a field of 90 golfers. Junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) finished two shots back of Nash. Kovar shot rounds of 85-77, and Wilson shot rounds of 82-80.

The Owls will return to action on May 4th and 5th at the American Midwest Conference postseason tournament. The championship event will be held at A.L. Gustin Golf Course in Columbia, Mo.

Kyle KovarMen's Golf Finishes 3rd at MVC Invitational

(MARSHALL, Mo., Apr. 8)--The William Woods University men's golf team finished third at the Missouri Valley College Invitational on Tuesday. Because of inclement weather, the tournament was changed to a one-day event.

Host Missouri Valley won the tournament by shooting a 3-over par 291. Evangel University finished second with an 11-over par 299. The Owls finished five strokes behind Evangel and shot a 16-over 304.

Junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) finished in a tie for fifth place individually. Kovar shot a 2-over par 74. He finished two shots behind co-champions Davan Bestgen and Tyler Kasubeck from Missouri Valley College. Freshman Bobby Mayer (Ballwin, Mo.), senior Gabe George (Salisbury, Mo.), and freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) each finished in a tie for ninth place with a 4-over par 76.

The Owls will return to the course on April 13th and 14th at the NAIA Classic at The Brickyard Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.

Nick WilsonMen's Golf Finishes 3rd at WWU Invitational

(FULTON, Mo., March. 31)--The William Woods University men's golf team finished third at the 2009 William Woods University Spring Invitational Tournament on Tuesday. William Woods battled cold temperatures and high winds to place third in the 11-team field.

The 26th ranked Owls finished eight shots behind tournament winner Grand View College. The Owls finished two strokes behind second place Iowa Wesleyan College.

Freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) finished in a tie for third place for William Woods. Wilson shot a two-day 149.

The Owls will return to the course on April 6th and 7th at the Missouri Valley College Spring Invitational.

Kyle KovarMen's Golf Opens Spring Season

(FULTON, Mo., March. 19)--The William Woods University men's golf team finished 8th (309-295-604) at the UST Texas Intercollegiate Golf Championship in Fort Worth, Texas.

Against a strong NAIA field, the Owls finished +28. 6th ranked Oklahoma Baptist University won the nine-team tournament shooting 6-under par (292-278-570). Two other schools at the tournament are ranked in the NAIA Top 25 (#13 Texas Wesleyan and #18 Northwood University).

Junior Kyle Kovar finished in a tie for 24th individually. Kovar shot 2-over par for the tournament (73-73-146). He finished nine strokes behind tournament champion Nathan Rau (University of Mobile).

Freshman Nick Wilson finished five shots behind Kovar. Wilson finished in a tie for 44th (79-72-151).

William Woods entered the tournament as the 23rd ranked team in the NAIA. The Owls are the defending American Midwest Conference champions. William Woods qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in the history of the program in the spring of 2008.

William Woods University OwlsMen's Golf Ranked in First Poll

(FULTON, Mo., Feb. 27)--The William Woods University men's golf team will open the 2009 season as the 23rd ranked team in the NAIA.

In a poll released today, the golf team earned 169 points in the first NAIA men's golf poll of the spring season. The Owls will open the 2009 season at the UST Texas Intercollegiate Golf Championship in Forth Worth, Texas, on March 14-16.

The Owls are the defending American Midwest Conference champions. William Woods qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in the history of the program in the spring of 2008.

Chris Bahr Chris Bahr Ties for First Place at Arris' Pizza Invitational

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 14)--The William Woods University men's golf team finished in third place at the Arris' Pizza Fall Invitational held at Tanglewood Golf Course on Tuesday. The Owls fired rounds of 294 and 298 for to finish two strokes behind Oklahoma Baptist University.

Senior Chris Bahr (Vandalia, Mo.) tied McKendree's Justin Mueller for the individual championship with rounds of 72 and 71. Junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman Nick Wilson (Columbia, Mo.) tied for third place with even par totals of 144.

Senior Brandon Stallo (Salisbury, Mo.) shot rounds of 75 and 78. Sophomore Austin Waibel (Boonville, Mo.) and Freshmen J.D. Nash (Dixon, Mo.) each finished with 10-over par 154 totals to round out the varsity scoring for the Owls.

The William Woods Junior Varsity had a good showing finishing in fifth place with rounds of 307 and 298.

The Owls, who are looking for a return trip to the NAIA National Championship, are off to a great start to the 2008-09 season averaging 297 through 11 rounds. They will return to the links on October 27th and 28th, at the Sleep Inn and Suites Invitational Tournament in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Owls Men’s Golf in 6th After Round One

(BOLIVAR, Mo., Oct. 6)--The William Woods University men’s golf team is in 6th place after the opening round of play in the Southwest Baptist University Invitational Tournament.  The Owls shot an opening round 305 and are 16 shots behind host Southwest Baptist.  Thirteen schools comprise the SBU field.  William Woods University is the only NAIA school competing in the tournament.

Freshman Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) shot an opening round 74 (+2).  After one round, Wilson is tied for 10th place and five shots out of the lead. Junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) is tied for 18th place after day one.  Kovar shot a 75 (+3).

Owls Strong at Lindenwood Invitational

(St. Louis, Mo., September 23rd) - - The William Woods University men's golf team finished in 8th place against a strong field of 23 teams from across the country at the Lindenwood Fall Invitational held at Crescent Farms Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. The Owls fired opening day rounds of 302, 301 and closed with a 299 for a 902 total.

Freshmen J.D. Nash (Dixon, Mo.) led the Owls with steady rounds of 75,75 and 74 for an 8-over par total of 224.

The Owls will travel to Bolivar, Missouri on October 5th-7th to compete in the Southwest Baptist Fall Invitational at Siloh Ridge Golf Club.

Wilson Leads Owls to Fourth Place at Cropper Classic

Men's Golf Cedar Rapids, Ia., September 14th) - - The William Woods University men's golf team splashed their way to a fourth place finish out of a 24 team field at the 2008 Cropper Classic held at a rain-soaked Hunter's Ridge Golf Club. The Owls shot a one-over par 289 opening round and were in second place, but slipped to fourth following a 300 second round for a 589 total.

Freshmen Nick Wilson (Columbia, Mo.) led the charge for the Owls with a pair of one-under par 71's for a total of two-under par 142 and a third place finish individually. Wilson leads the Owls with a 71.5 stroke average this fall.

 

Junior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) continued his steady play by firing rounds of 71 and 76 for a 147 total. Freshmen J.D. Nash (Dixon, Mo.) opened with an even-par 72 and, despite a shaky putter, still managed a final round 76 to finish at 148. Sophomore Austin Waibel (Boonville, Mo.) and senior Brandon Stallo (Salisbury, Mo.) each shot two-day totals of 151 and senior Chris Bahr (Vandalia, Mo.) rounded out the scoring for the Owls with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total.

 

The Owls will travel to St. Louis, Mo. to compete in the Lindenwood University Invitational at Crescent Farms C.C. on September 21st-23rd.

Owls Finish Third In Season Opener

Austin Waibel (Fulton, Mo., September 10th) - - The William Woods University men's golf team kicked off the 2008-09 season with a third place finish against a strong field at the William Woods Fall Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Course.The Owls fired an opening round two-under par 286 in the first round and finished with a seven-over par 295 score in the second round to finish the tournament win a five-over par 581 total.

The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith won the tournament by one-stroke over the University of Central Missouri with both firing very impressive scores of twelve-under par and eleven-under par.

Leading the way way for the Owls were sophomore Austin Waibel (Boonville, Missouri) 68-75 and senior Brandon Stallo (Salisbury, Missouri) 71-72 each carding one-under par scores of 143. Nash 72-79 - 151 and senior Chris Bahr (Vandalia, Missouri) 78-75 - 153.

The Owls will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this weekend to compete in the 2008 Cropper Classic at Hunter's Ridge Golf Course.
