(FULTON, Mo., Nov. 16) -The William Woods University men’s basketball team lost to visiting Missouri Valley College 67-82 on Monday night in Anderson Arena. The Owls fall to 1-4 with the loss. The Vikings improve to 3-1 with the victory.

 

Both teams made runs on each other in the first half of play. Missouri Valley College started the game with a 9-0 run. William Woods closed the gap with a 7-0 run to cut the early deficit to two points. MVC pushed the lead to 16-7 with 14 minutes left in the opening half. WWU answered with a 14-2 run to take a 21-18 lead with 7:50 remaining. Missouri Valley regained the lead with 2:30 in the half. The Vikings would hold the lead and take a 36-34 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

 

MVC shot 39% from the field in the first half. The Vikings were led by James Devault with nine points. WWU shot 38% from the field in the opening half. The Owls were led by junior Dan Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo.) with nine points. Anderson was 3-for-8 from beyond the three-point line.

 

After trailing 40-34 early in the second half, Woods went on an 12-1 run to take the lead (46-41) with 15:54 left in the contest. From that point on, the Vikings outscored the Owls 41-21.

 

The Vikings outscored the Owls 46-33 in the second half. MVC shot 72% from the field in the half. WWU shot 33% from the field in the second half.

 

Missouri Valley was led by Roc Rivers with 20 points. Bryant Porter added 16 points for the Vikings in the win. Rouven Haenig recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

 

William Woods was led by Anderson with 20 points. Freshman Logan Decker (Kansas City, Mo.) tossed in 11 points for the Owls. Junior Vern Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 11 points in the loss.

 

The Owls will return to action on November 18. William Woods will travel to Mid-Continent University. Tip-off is at 7 pm in Mayfield, Ky.
