Owls Drop Opener at Avila

(KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 2) -The William Woods University men's basketball team dropped its season opener at Avila University on Monday night. Avila defeated William Woods 86-69.

AU took a 34-27 lead into halftime. The Eagles outscored the Owls 52-42 in the second half to secure the win.

Junior Dan Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo.) scored 23 points in the loss for the Owls. Anderson was 7-for-15 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from behind the three-point line. Senior Jerone Lester (Chicago, Ill) added 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss for the Owls. Freshman Seth Thomas (Hannibal, Mo.) scored 10 points for WWU. Freshman Thomas Chadwick (Springfield, Mo.) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.

Avila (1-0) shot 44% from the field, and outrebounded the Owls 52-32. William Woods (0-1) shot 42% from the floor in the loss.

William Woods will return to action on November 4th. The Owls will host Logan College at 7 pm in Anderson Arena.
