Volleyball Takes lead in Recycling

Coach Alicia JonesVolleyball Takes Lead in Recycling

- By Assistant Volleyball Coach Alicia Jones

The William Woods Volleyball Team started a recycling initiative project in September of 2008 as part of Champions of Character where the ladies would pick up recycling each week from designated locations on campus. 22 ladies covered all the major buildings (Academic, Burton, Anderson Arena, Art, Dome, Cutlip, CHP, Science, UIT and misc.. others). There were 21 floors covering numerous offices and classrooms. Each floor’s rooms have blue recycle bins that they would empty weekly. We pick up paper, cardboard, newspaper and magazines. We also have four bottle/aluminum can containers across campus. The recycled products are picked up by Kingdom Projects (http://kingdomprojects.org/).

Recycling Details:

- The ladies toured Kingdom Projects during the Spring 2009 semester.

- 150 pick-up hours were accumulated.

- A campus faculty committee was formed last year that extends the players efforts. The committee is mapping out the campus so there are contiguous pickup locations.

- Two players picked up recycling over the summer.
