Servant leadership is a very important element in the “Champions of Character” program. The softball program takes on this role seriously by putting our team first and striving to be a good example in our community.
Through the years our softball team has served our community in many ways. We have sorted toys for the Clothes Cupboard, which helps those that are less fortunate. Our team has visited children’s hospitals to try to take the children’s minds off of their illnesses for the time we are there. We have also visited other hospitals to try and make those individuals who are staying there feel like someone cares about them. This year we will be chaperoning a teens dance and Halloween dance at the YMCA.
The softball team tries to set good examples and conduct ourselves in a good manner to represent softball and William Woods University as best as possible. A good example of this is we think of others and our team before thinking of ourselves on and off the field. We like to be aware of our surroundings at all times. There are parents and children at our games so cursing is not acceptable.
On the field we believe servant leadership is the ability to lead your team as an individual. We strive to be positive and pick our team members up when they are having a bad day instead of blaming and pointing fingers.
