Josh GoodinJosh Goodin Signs with Baltimore Orioles

(FULTON, Mo., July 2) - Senior Josh Goodin has signed a free agent contract to join the Baltimore Orioles.  Goodin becomes the second player in the history of the William Woods University baseball program to sign a professional contract with Major League Baseball.  Nick Wooley, the first player to sign a contract, was drafted in the 12th round of the MLB Draft on June 10th, 2009.  

Goodin, a 6'1" pitcher from Eugene, Mo., was 5-5 on the season with one save for the Owls.  Goodin appeared in 14 games, started 10 and completed two.  He posted a 4.58 ERA in 59 innings pitched.  Goodin struck out 64 hitters, and opponents hit .265 against him.  

Goodin was a 1st Team All-American Midwest Conference selection in 2008.  He was an Honorable Mention All-AMC selection in 2009.  He will join the Orioles Rookie team in the Gulf Coast League in Sarasota, Fla.  

William Woods University finished the 2009 season 34-15.  They finished second in the regular season and postseason tournament.  The Owls reached NAIA Top 25 status on three occasions this season, and were among other receiving votes in the final NAIA Top 25 poll.  WWU finished one win shy of tying the school record for win (35) set in 2004 (35-32).  William Woods set a new school record for team batting average (.323) and ERA (4.31).

Nick WooleyNick Wooley Drafted by Kansas City Royals

(FULTON, Mo., June 10) - Junior Nick Wooley was drafted by the Kansas City Royals today in the Major League Baseball Draft.  Wooley, a 6'2" pitcher from Edwardsville, Ill., was selected in the 12th round.  He was the 362 player taken in the 2009 MLB draft.  

Wooley was 8-1 with a 3.31 ERA in his only season with the Owls.  Wooley transferred to William Woods from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.   

As an Owl, Wooley threw 70.2 innings, allowed 60 hits, struck out 89 and walked 27.  Opponents hit .226 on the season against Wooley.  

Wooley is the first player in the history of the William Woods University baseball program to be drafted by Major League Baseball.  On April 20th, Wooley was selected the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week.  He was also selected First Team All-AMC, AMC Co-Pitcher of the Year, and AMC Newcomer of the Year.

William Woods University BaseballJacob Harrison Signs With WWU

(FULTON, Mo., June 10) - Head Baseball Coach Darren Munns has announced the signing of Jacob Harrison to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2010. Harrison comes to William Woods from Fulton High School in Fulton, Mo.

Harrison, a 5'6" shortstop, was an All-Conference selection in 2008 and 2009 at Fulton High School. He was also an All-District selection in 2009 and helped lead his team to the Missouri State Baseball Tournament Final Four.

Baseball Players Earn National Recognition

(FULTON, Mo., June 1) - Four William Woods University baseball players have received national postseason awards.

Senior Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.) and junior Curt Clark (New Florence, Mo.) have been announced as NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the 2009 season. To qualify for the award, an individual must be of at least junior standing, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 or better.

Senior Jacob Thames (Magee, Miss.) was the recipient of the National Strength and Conditioning All-American Award. The NSCA recognizes collegiate and High School athletes whose athletic accomplishments reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning. These athletes are also recognized for their academic and personal accomplishments as well as their integrity as student athletes.

Sophomore Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) was selected NAIA Honorable Mention All-American. Tamayose, a 5'10" first baseman, was also named first team All-American Midwest Conference, and the AMC Player of the Year. Tamayose hit .420 with 14 doubles, seven home runs and 46 RBI's in his first season with the Owls.

Baseball Season Comes To An End

(FULTON, Mo., May 9) - The William Woods University baseball season came to an end Friday afternoon with the release of the 2009 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round pairings. The Owls did not receive an at-large bid to the tournament.

William Woods ends its season with a record of 34-15. They reached NAIA Top 25 status on three occasions this year, and were among others receiving votes in this week's final poll. They finished one win shy of tying the school record for wins (35) set in 2004 (35-32). WWU set a new school record for team batting average (.323) and ERA (4.31).

Garrett OliverBaseball Falls in AMC Championships

(LEBANON, Ill., May 5) - The William Woods University baseball team dropped both AMC championship games to McKendree University on Tuesday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill. McKendree defeated the Owls 18-1 and 17-10. The AMC tournament victory gives McKendree an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Tournament. The Owls will have to wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to the tournament.

McKendree scored two runs in the top of the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead in game one. The Bearcats scored at least two runs in each of the next six innings en route to the 18-1 win to force an if necessary championship game.

Senior Michael Hufty (Silex, Mo.) took the loss for the Owls. Hufty falls to 3-2 on the season. Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.), Jacob Thames (Magee, Miss.), Kevin Challoner (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and Matt Denney (Florence, Nova Scotia) all recorded hits in the loss for William Woods.

McKendree scored 18 runs on 18 hits in the win. William Woods scored one run on four hits and committed two errors in the loss.

The final championship game was back-and-forth the entire way. McKendree went out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. William Woods answered with three runs in the top of the third to close the gap to 5-3.

After McKendree answered with a run of its own in their half of the third, the Owls answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at six.

McKendree added eight runs over the next three innings to push the lead to 14-6. The Owls showed no quit. William Woods scored four runs in the top of the eighth to close the gap to 14-10.

The Bearcats put the game away in the bottom of the eighth, scoring three runs.

Senior Josh Goodin (Eugene, Mo.) took the loss in relief for WWU. Goodin falls to 5-5 on the season. Junior Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) had a monster game at the plate for the Owls. Oliver went 3-for-5 with six RBI's. Conway, Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.), Matt Thompson (Desloge, Mo.), and Denney each had two hits in the loss.

McKendree (36-19-2) scored 17 runs on 21 hits and committed one error in the win. William Woods (34-15) scored 10 runs on 15 hits and committed three errors in the loss.

The Owls will now play the waiting game to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Tournament.

Tyler TamayoseFollowing the game, the Owls received many postseason awards. Sophomore Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) was named the AMC Player of the Year. Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) was named the AMC Co-Pitcher of the Year. Wooley was also named the AMC Newcomer of the Year.

Merrick ConwayBaseball Advances to Championship Game

(LEBANON, Ill., May 4) - The William Woods University baseball team defeated Hannibal-LaGrange College 11-2 on day two of the 2009 American Midwest Conference baseball postseason tournament.  The Owls advance to the championship game tomorrow.  They will play McKendree University.

The Owls took control quickly this afternoon. L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to give WWU an early 2-0 lead. William Woods added a pair of runs in the second, and another run in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

WWU kept its foot on the pedal, scoring two runs in the fifth, and two runs in the seventh to increase its lead to 9-0.

Hannibal-LaGrange put two runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh to cut into the WWU lead. The Owls would then answer with two additional runs in the ninth.

Senior Tim Stunkel (Edwardsville, Ill.) took the win for William Woods in today’s game.  Stunkel (7-3) worked six and 2/3's innings, allowed four hits, two runs, walked five and struck out five.

Junior Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI’s for the Owls in the win. Watson, Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) and Nick Signaigo (San Diego, Calif.) each added three hits apiece in the win. Watson was 3-for-5 with four RBI's. Oliver added two RBI's for WWU.

Hannibal-LaGrange scored two runs on six hits and committed two errors in the loss. William Woods scored 11 runs on 17 hits and committed one error in the win.

William Woods (34-14) will play at 11 am tomorrow morning.  If McKendree wins the 11 am game, an if necessary game would be played immediately following.  With a win tomorrow, the Owls would earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Tournament.

Baseball Opens AMC Tournament With Win
(LEBANON, Ill., May 2)--
The William Woods University baseball team opened the 2009 American Midwest Conference baseball postseason tournament with a 6-3 win over Missouri Baptist University. The Owls advance in the winner's bracket to face Hannibal-LaGrange College at 12 noon on Monday.

The Owls scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break-open a 1-1 ballgame. After Missouri Baptist scored two runs in its half of the sixth inning, WWU added another run in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.

Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) took the win for William Woods. Wooley worked six and 2/3's innings, allowed six hits, three runs, walked one and struck out eight.

Josh Goodin earned his first save of the season for William Woods. Goodin (Eugene, Mo.) threw two innings, did not allow a hit, walked one and struck out four.

L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) paced the Owls at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort. Watson had a double and an RBI in the victory. Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.) had a big day for the Owls at the plate as well. Morrow went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI's. Matt Thompson (Desloge, Mo.) added two hits and an RBI in the WWU win.

Looking ahead to Monday afternoon, William Woods won three of the four games played against Hannibal-LaGrange this season. The Owls lost game one of the four-game series 7-8, then won the final three games 6-5, 3-2, and 10-7.

Weather pending, the AMC baseball postseason tournament will conclude on Tuesday afternoon in Lebanon, Ill.

Baseball Swept By McKendree
(FULTON, Mo., April 25)--
The 23rd ranked William Woods University baseball team dropped both ends of an American Midwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to visiting McKendree University. The Bearcats defeated the Owls 11-0 and 6-3. By virtue of the series victory, McKendree wins the AMC regular season, and will host the AMC postseason tournament beginning on Friday, May 1st.

The Owls did not have an answer for Bearcat starter Nolan Martz. Martz (6-4) worked seven innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out eight.

The Owls trailed 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning. McKendree scored seven runs on four hits, and WWU committed three errors in the inning.

Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) and L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) collected both hits for the Owls.

Senior Tim Stunkel (Edwardsville, Ill.) took the loss for William Woods. Stunkel (6-3) pitched five innings, allowed six hits, four runs, four earned runs, walked three and struck out four.

McKendree scored 11 runs on 11 hits in the win. William Woods collected two hits and committed three errors in the loss.

William Woods took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning in the final game of the series. Senior Vincent DiSchino (Florissant, Mo.) drove in Garrett Oliver to break open a scoreless game. Matt Thompson (Desloge, Mo.) added another RBI in the fourth to give the Owls the two-run lead.

After McKendree scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) scored on a wild-pitch to give the Owls a 3-1 lead.

Things came unraveled for the Owls in the sixth inning. McKendree got to starter Michael Hufty (Silex, Mo.) with a pair of singles, and an error to close the gap to 3-2. With a runner on third and one out, reliever Cody Morrow entered the game and allowed a single to tie the game, and a double and a home run as McKendree took a 6-3 lead.

Hufty took a no-decision for the Owls. He worked 5 and 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, three runs and struck out eight. Morrow (2-2) took the loss for the Owls. He worked 2/3's of an inning, allowed three hits, three runs and walked one.

Thompson and DiSchino were each 1-for-2 with an RBI in the loss for the Owls.

McKendree (32-17-1, 15-4-1) scored six runs on 10 hits and committed two errors in the win. William Woods scored three runs on six hits and committed two errors in the loss.

The Owls fall to 32-13 overall, and 13-7 in the AMC. Pending results from additional conference results, they will be the #2 or #3 seed in the AMC postseason tournament.

The Owls received strong starting pitching from junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) in game one. Wooley (7-1) worked seven innings, allowed five hits, two runs, one earned run, struck out six and walked none.

The Owls scored a run in the first, second, and third inning to take a 3-0 lead. McKendree scored a run in the fourth and in the six inning, but could not get any closer.

Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.), Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) and Kevin Challoner (Winnipeg, Manitoba) all had an RBI in the win for William Woods.

McKendree scored two runs on five hits and committed one error in the loss. William Woods scored three runs on six hits and committed three errors in the win.

The Owls and Bearcats turned offensive down the stretch in game two. The two teams scored 14 runs over the final three innings, and McKendree would eventually win 11-8. Each team used five pitchers in the final game of the afternoon.

William Woods trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Owls would bat around and score five runs to tie the game 6-6.

McKendree took the lead again in the top of the six inning. McKendree added two runs in the top of the inning to take an 8-6 lead. Not to be outdone, the Owls tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Calvin O'Rear delivered his second home run of the game in the top of the seventh inning and gave the Bearcats the lead for good.

Mike Bultitude (Delta, British Columbia) took the loss in relief for William Woods. Bultitude (1-2) worked a third of an inning, allowed one hit, two runs and struck out one.

Tamayose went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.) also went 3-for-4 in the loss. Morrow added three RBI's for WWU. Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's in the loss.

McKendree (30-17-1, 13-4-1) scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the win. William Woods (32-11, 13-5) scored eight runs on 15 hits and committed one error in the loss.

The two teams will conclude their AMC series tomorrow. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 1 pm. Tomorrow is Senior Day at William Woods. The Owls will honor their graduating seniors between games.

Baseball in Top 25 For Third Straight Week

(FULTON, Mo., April 21)--The William Woods University baseball team dropped three spots to 23rd in this week’s NAIA Baseball Top 25.  The Owls, who have now been ranked for three consecutive weeks, will return to action on Friday and Saturday.  William Woods will finish American Midwest Conference play this weekend against McKendree University.

Two Owls Earn AMC Baseball Honor

Release Provided by the American Midwest Conference

(LEBANON, Ill., April 21)-- William Woods University swept its way to the American Midwest Conference weekly baseball honors for April 13-19.

Tyler Tamayose was selected as the AMC Baseball Player of the Week, while Nick Wooley was named the AMC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The honors were announced late Monday by the conference office.

Tamayose, a sophomore first baseman from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, posted a batting average of .667 with eight hits in 12 at-bats. Of those eight hits, Tamayose had a double and two home runs along with eight RBI's. He scored three runs on the week and posted a slugging percentage of 1.250.

For the season, Tamayose leads William Woods with a batting average of .426, seven home runs and 43 RBI's.

Wooley, a junior from Edwardsville, Ill., tossed a complete-game one-hitter in his only start of the week, an 8-1 victory over Missouri Baptist University. Wooley allowed one earned run with seven strikeouts. With the win, Wooley improved to 6-1 on the year with an earned-run average of 3.47. In 57 innings of work this season, Wooley has struck out 75 batters.

The William Woods University baseball team is 31-10 on the year and is 12-4 in AMC play.The Owls are ranked No. 20 in the latest NAIA coaches poll.

Michael HuftyBaseball Splits Series at Missouri Baptist

(ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 18)--The 20th ranked William Woods University baseball team split an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at Missouri Baptist University on Saturday. The Owls and Spartans split the four-game series.

Missouri Baptist scored five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-1 lead into the third. After the Owls answered with a run in the top of the third inning, the Spartans scored a run in the fourth, and another in the fifth to expand the lead. MBU would eventually win the opener 7-3.

Senior Tim Stunkel (Edwardsville, Ill.) took the loss for the Owls. Stunkel (6-2) worked three and 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits, six runs, walked one and struck out six.

Junior Matt Denney (Florence, Nova Scotia) went 2-for-3 in the loss for WWU. Jacob Thames (Magee, Miss.) and Adam Wojciechowski (St. Louis, Mo.) each had an RBI in the loss.

William Woods scored three runs on three hits and committed one error in the loss. Missouri Baptist scored seven runs on eight hits and committed one error in the win.

William Woods (31-10) will return to action on Friday and Saturday. The Owls will host McKendree University in a four-game AMC series. McKendree is in first place in the AMC with a recorded of 12-3-1. William Woods is in second place with a record of 12-4. The four-game series is the final AMC series of the regular season.

After the Owls took a 2-0 lead in game one, Missouri Baptist score four runs in the bottom of the fourth, then four more in the bottom of the sixth to earn the win.

Senior Josh Goodin (Eugene, Mo.) took the loss for William Woods. Goodin (5-4) went four and 1/3 innings, allowed five hits, four runs, walked one and struck out two.

Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) was 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and two RBI's. Nick Signaigo (San Diego, Calif.) was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit home run and one RBI.

Drew Hrebaugh threw a complete game for Missouri Baptist. Hrebaugh went seven innings, allowed six hits, three runs, walked two and struck out six.

William Woods scored three runs on six hits and committed one error in the loss. Missouri Baptist scored eight runs on seven hits and committed one error in the win.

The Owls jumped on MBU starter Josh Rider quickly in the first inning. The Owls scored four runs in the top of the first and chased Rider after 2/3's of an inning.

Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) threw a one-hitter in the second game. The only hit allowed was a solo home run from Trevor Sampson in the bottom of the fourth. Wooley (6-1) struck out seven and walked one in the win.

Tamayose was 4-for-4 with a run scored, four RBI's, and a double. Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) was 3-for-3 with four runs scored in the lead-off spot for the Owls.

WWU (30-9, 11-3) scored eight runs on 11 hits and committed two errors in the win. MBU (19-16-1, 6-5-1) scored one run on one hit.

The Owls and Spartans will return to action on Saturday. The AMC doubleheader at Missouri Baptist will begin at 11 am.

(FULTON, Mo., April 14)--The William Woods University baseball team moved up one spot in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll. The 20th ranked Owls are 28-8 on the season.

The Owls put their new ranking on the line Tuesday evening in Topeka, Kans. William Woods traveled to the Lake Shawnee Baseball Complex and played a single nine-inning game against Ottawa University. WWU collected its fourth consecutive win with a 4-2 victory over the Braves. The Owls have won 14 of their last 16 games.

Both teams were scoreless heading into the fifth inning. Ottawa scored two runs in the top of the fifth. The Owls answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, and two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. WWU added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, and held Ottawa scoreless the rest of the way.

Sophomore Robbie McMorris (Bowling Green, Mo.) pitched well for the Owls, but took a no-decision. McMorris went five innings, allowed three hits, two runs, walked one and struck out three.

William Woods used five pitchers in the nine-inning game. Junior Mike Bultitude (Delta, British Columbia) earned the win in relief. Bultitude (1-1) worked an inning and 1/3. He struck out one and did not allow a base runner. Senior Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.) collected his eighth save of the season. Morrow pitched the final inning and struck out two.

Sophomore Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a home run. The home run was Tamayose's sixth of the season.

Ottawa University (9-33) scored two runs on four hits and committed one error in the loss. William Woods scored four runs on five hits.

(FULTON, Mo., April 11)--The William Woods University baseball team swept an American Midwest Conference doubleheader from visiting Harris-Stowe State University on Saturday. The Owls defeated the Hornets 8-3 and 11-3. On the weekend, WWU took three of the four games against HSSU.

The William Woods offense, which was held in check on Friday, erupted for eight runs in game one on Saturday. The Owls scored two runs in the first, third, fourth, and fifth inning en route to the victory.

Junior Brian Bishop (Russellville, Mo.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's in the win for the Owls. Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) and Matt Denney (Florence, Nova Scotia) each collected two hits apiece in the win.

Senior Tim Stunkel (Edwardsville, Ill.) collected his sixth win of the season for WWU. Stunkel (6-1) went seven innings, allowed eight hits, three runs, struck out six and walked none.

Harris-Stowe scored three runs on eight hits and committed five errors in the loss. William Woods scored eight runs on 12 hits and committed one error in the win.

After HSSU scored two runs in the top of the first inning in game two, the Owls hung nine runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning. After that, the game was never again in question.

Senior Michael Hufty (Silex, Mo.) took the win for the Owls. Hufty (2-1) worked four and 1/3 innings, allowed six hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two.

Junior Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBI's. Oliver, Denney, and Matt Thompson each drove in two runs apiece for WWU.

Harris-Stowe scored three runs on seven hits and committed two errors in the loss. William Woods scored 11 runs on 15 hits in the win.

Harris-Stowe falls to 19-19 overall, and 3-9 in the AMC. The 21st ranked Owls improve to 28-8 overall, and 10-2 in the AMC.

William Woods will return to action on Tuesday at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kans.

Nick SignaigoOwls Split With Hornets

(FULTON, Mo., April 10)--The William Woods University baseball team split an American Midwest Conference doubleheader against visiting Harris-Stowe State University on Friday at Owls Field. The Owls lost game one 6-0, and won game two 2-1 in nine innings.

The 21st ranked Owls trailed 1-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning in game one. HSSU took control by scoring five runs in the top of the sixth.

Senior Josh Goodin (Eugene, Mo.) took the loss for William Woods. Goodin (5-3) worked six innings, allowed six hits, two earned runs, walked one and struck out nine.

The Owls, who were hitting .342 heading into the weekend series, managed only two hits off HSSU starter Ace Williams (3-3). Merrick Conway (Edwardsville, Ill.) and Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) each had a hit in the loss.

Harris-Stowe scored six runs on seven hits and committed one error in the win. William Woods had two hits and three errors in the loss.

It took extra innings to decide the winner in game two of the doubleheader. Each team scored a run in the first inning, then went seven scoreless innings heading into the ninth inning.

Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) pitched well, but took a no-decision for William Woods. Wooley pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, one run, no earned runs, walked three and struck out eight.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Conway led off the inning with a triple to centerfield. Tamayose was walked intentionally and the Hornets decided to pitch to Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.) with no outs and runners on the corners. Oliver hit a come-backer to HSSU hurler Craig Floyd. Floyd held Conway at third, and recorded the out at first base.

With runners on second and third, and one out, HSSU walked Cody Morrow (Eugene, Mo.) to load the bases. Senior Nick Signaigo (San Diego, Calif.) delivered a bases loaded RBI single to center field to give the Owls the 2-1 victory.

Junior Tyler Anderson (Perth, Australia) earned the win in relief for the Owls. Anderson (4-0) threw two innings, allowed no hits or walks, and struck out two.

Conway was 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and a run scored. Signaigo was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.

William Woods scored two runs on five hits and committed two errors in the win. Harris-Stowe (19-17, 3-7) scored one run on six hits in the loss.

William Woods improves to 26-8 on the season, and 8-2 in the AMC. The Owls and Hornets will conclude their four-game series on Saturday at 1 pm.

(FULTON, Mo., April 7)--For the first time in the history of the William Woods University baseball program, the Owls are ranked in the NAIA Top 25.  The NAIA Baseball national rankings came out today, and the Owls are ranked 21st.  William Woods began its baseball program in 1999.  

William Woods (25-7) will return to the diamond on April 10th and 11th.  WWU will host Harris-Stowe State University in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader.

Tim StunkelStunkel Named AMC Pitcher of the Week

(LEBANON, Ill., April 7)--Tim Stunkel has been selected the American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Week for March 30-April 5th.

Stunkel, a senior from Edwardsville, Ill., pitched a complete game in a 3-2 AMC victory at Hannibal-LaGrange College. Stunkel allowed just five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He gave up just one earned run in helping the Owls improve to 25-7 on the year.

William Woods will return to action on April 10th and 11th. They will host Harris-Stowe State University at 1 pm each day.

(HANNIBAL, Mo., April 4)--The William Woods University baseball team won 3-of-4 games at American Midwest Conference rival Hannibal-LaGrange College this weekend. The Owls lost the opener 8-7, then won the final three games 6-5, 3-2, and 10-7.

The Owls erased a 6-2 deficit in game one by scoring two runs in the top of the sixth, and three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Closer Cody Morrow, who had not allowed a run all year, gave up a walk-off home run to Clark Johnson to post his first loss of the season.

Sophomore Adam Wojciechowski (St. Louis, Mo.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI's in the loss for WWU. Matt Denney (Florence, Nova Scotia) went 2-for-4 with two RBI's for the Owls. Brian Bishop (Russellville, Mo.) added a pair of RBI's in the loss.

WWU scored seven runs on 11 hits in the loss. H-LC scored eight runs on eight hits and committed two errors in the win.

William Woods gained a split of the doubleheader on Friday with a 6-5 victory in game two. The Owls scored two runs in the top of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie.

Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) earned the win for WWU. Wooley (5-1) worked 5 and 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, four runs, walked four and struck out nine.

Sophomore L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI's in the win for the Owls. Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the victory.

The Owls scored six runs on nine hits in the win. The Trojans scored five runs on eight eights and committed two errors in the loss.

William Woods had to come from behind again to earn game three of the series on Saturday. WWU trailed 2-1 before scoring a run in the top of the sixth, and seventh, to earn the victory.

L.J. WatsonWatson Named AMC Player of the Week

(LEBANON, Ill., March 30)--L.J. Watson from William Woods University has been honored by the American Midwest Conference for his play on the baseball diamond for the week of March 23-29.  Watson was selected as the AMC Baseball Player of the Week.

Watson, a sophomore shortstop from O'Fallon, Ill., helped spark the Owls to a four-game AMC sweep on the road against Williams Baptist College. Watson went 8-for-14 in the series for a .571 batting average. Six of his eight hits went for extra bases with four doubles and a pair of home runs. He drove in 10 runs in the four games. In addition, Watson scored eight runs and stole two bases. For the weekend, Watson had a slugging percentage of 1.286.

For the year, Watson is batting .397 with 10 doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI.

(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., March 28)--The William Woods University baseball team opened American Midwest Conference play with a four-game sweep at Williams Baptist College this weekend. The Owls won 10-3 and 12-2 on Friday, and 14-1 and 10-3 on Saturday.

William Woods scored four runs in the first two innings to take charge of game one. Leading 4-1 after three innings, WWU added three more runs in the top of the fourth to cruise to the victory.

Senior Josh Goodin (Eugene, Mo.) worked 4 2/3 innings to improve to 5-2 on the season. Goodin allowed five hits, one earned run, struck out two and walked two. Junior Tyler Anderson (Perth, Australia) earned his first save of the season in relief. Anderson pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed one hit, struck out four and walked one.

L.J. Watson (O'Fallon, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI's for William Woods. Tyler Tamayose (Lethbridge, Alberta) and Matt Denney (Florence, Nova Scotia) each collected two hits and an RBI apiece in the win for the Owls.

WWU scored 10 runs on 12 hits and committed five errors in the win. WBC scored three runs on six hits and committed three errors in the loss in game one.

William Woods made quick work of the Eagles in game two. The Owls led 6-0 through three innings before erupting for five runs in the fourth. The Owls run-ruled the Eagles 12-2 in five innings to sweep the doubleheader on Friday.

Junior Nick Wooley (Edwardsville, Ill.) earned the win on the mound for the Owls. He pitched five innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, struck out nine and walked four. Wooley improves to 4-1 on the year.

Junior Kevin Challoner (Winnipeg, Manitoba) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the win for William Woods. Tamayose went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI's in the victory for the Owls. Garrett Oliver (Macon, Mo.), Jacob Thames (Magee, Miss.), and Nick Signaigo (San Diego, Calif.) added two hits apiece in the win for WWU.

William Woods scored 12 runs on 14 hits and committed one error in the win. Williams Baptist scored two runs on four hits and committed one error in the loss.

WWU began the doubleheader on Saturday the same way it ended the doubleheader on Friday; with a five-inning victory. The Owls scored nine runs in the first two innings and never looked back.

Senior Tim Stunkel (Edwardsville, Ill.) collected the win for the Owls. Stunkel (4-1) worked five innings, allowed seven hits, one run, struck out four and walked one in game three.

Tamayose went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBI's in the win for William Woods. Brian Bishop (Russellville, Mo.) went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBI's in the WWU victory. Watson added three hits, a home run and two RBI's for the Owls.

The Owls scored 14 runs on 14 hits in the win. The Eagles scored one run on seven hits and committed three errors in the loss.

William Woods completed the four-game AMC sweep by defeating WBC 10-3 in the final game of the series.

The Owls took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. Williams Baptist scored one run in the bottom of the inning to cut into the Owls lead. WWU answered with a run of its own in the top of the sixth. After the Eagles added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Owls put the game away by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh.

WWU scored 10 runs on 12 hits and committed five errors in the win. WBC scored three runs on six hits and committed two errors in the loss.

William Woods improves to 22-6 overall, and 4-0 in the AMC. The Owls will return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 3rd and 4th, at AMC rival Hannibal-LaGrange College. The doubleheader that was scheduled on April 1st against Lindenwood University has been cancelled.

(FULTON, Mo., March 18)--William Woods University senior pitcher Cody Morrow, and freshman pitcher Kelsey Schulte, have each been named American Midwest Conference baseball/softball pitcher of the week.

Morrow, a senior pitcher/first baseman from Eugene, Mo., was an important factor in his only pitching outing of the week, a 9-7 win Owls' win against Ohio Dominican University. Morrow worked one inning to pick up his second victory of the year. He allowed just one hit with a strikeout. In addition to his two wins, Morrow has posted a team-leading four saves.

Schulte, a freshman from Honey Creek, Mo., registered a pair of complete-game victories on the road last week for William Woods. Schulte allowed just two earned runs in 14 innings of work, giving up just five hits in the process. Schulte struck out eight batters in the wins.

(Daytona Beach, Fla., Mar. 17)--The William Woods University baseball team began its week in Daytona Beach, Fla., with an 8-7 victory over #22 Ohio Dominican University on Sunday afternoon. Senior Cody Morrow earned the win in relief for William Woods. Junior Kevin Challoner went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI's for WWU.

The Owls split a doubleheader with Huntington College on Monday afternoon. The Owls won game one 9-5 and lost game two 4-2.

Senior Tim Stunkel took the win in game one for the Owls. Cody Morrow earned the save in relief, went 3-for-3 at the plate, and drove in three runs. Sophomore Tyler Tamayose went 2-for-4 and hit his fourth home run on the season.

Huntington scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead in game two. Senior Josh Goodin took the loss for the Owls. Senior Nick Signaigo went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Morrow added an RBI in the loss for the Owls.

William Woods and Huntington played a single nine-inning game on Tuesday. Huntington took the rubber-match 7-1. The Owls trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning. Huntington scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, and one run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory. Senior Michael Hufty took the loss for William Woods. Merrick Conway and Garrett Oliver each had two hits in the loss.

WWU (15-6) will return to the diamond on Wednesday. The Owls will play Savannah College of Art and Design and Grand View College.

William Woods will conclude its trip with a single nine-inning game against Ohio Dominican on Friday.

L.J. WatsonBaseball Splits With Mt. Mercy

(FULTON, Mo., Mar. 8)--The William Woods University baseball team split a doubleheader with Mt. Mercy College (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon at Owls Field. The Owls lost the opener 10-7 in nine innings, and won game two 2-1.

The Mustangs scored five runs in the top of the first inning in game one. The Owls committed three errors in the inning that led to three of the five runs.

William Woods answered quickly in the bottom of the first. Sophomore L.J. Watson opened the inning with a solo home run. The Owls tacked on two more runs to close the gap to 5-3.

The Owls tied the game in the bottom of the second. Watson connected on another home run, this time a two-run shot to even the score.

Mt. Mercy scored a run in the third, and another in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. The Owls fought back with two runs of their own to tie the game at seven.

Neither team could push a runner across the plate during the next three innings. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Matthew Mercier hit an opposite field three-run home run off reliever Nick Wooley to give the Mustangs a 10-7 lead. The Owls put two runners on base in the bottom of the inning, but could not score.

Wooley (3-1) took the loss for William Woods. He worked 1 2/3 innings, allowed three hits, three runs, walked two and struck out two. Sean McIntosh took the win in relief for MMC.

Watson paced the Owls at the plate in game one. Watson went 5-for-6 with two home runs, two doubles, and recorded three RBI's.

Mount Mercy scored 10 runs on 13 hits. They committed three errors in the win. William Woods scored seven runs on 15 hits. They committed four errors in the loss.

Each team scored a run in the first inning in game two. Watson went deep again for the Owls to lead-off the bottom of the first. The two teams went scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the game tied at one, senior Jacob Thames doubled into the right-center field gap to lead-off the inning. Stephen Thoenen entered the game to pinch-run for Thames, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Matt Denney. Following an intentional walk to Watson, and a hit by pitch, sophomore Tyler Tamayose came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out.

Tamayose hit a 1-1 curveball back to the mound. The ball bounced off the glove of a leaping Erik Morales. The fortuitous bounce landed between two charging infielders, and resulted in a game-winning RBI infield single.

Junior Curt Clark (1-0) collected the win in relief for the Owls. Clark worked 2/3 of an inning and walked one. Morales took the loss for the Mustangs.

Watson was 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Tamayose was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Mount Mercy (8-10) scored one run on three hits. William Woods (13-4) scored two runs on five hits. They committed two errors in the win.

The Owls will return to action on Wednesday, March 11th. The Owls will host Missouri Valley College at 3 pm at Owls Field.

Cody MorrowBaseball Sweeps Mt. Mercy

(FULTON, Mo., Mar. 7)--The William Woods University baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Mt. Mercy College on Saturday afternoon at Owls Field. The Owls won 9-6 and 4-3.

In game one, William Woods took a 3-1 lead after two innings. Senior Cody Morrow hit a two-RBI opposite field home run to give the Owls a 2-1 lead. Merrick Conway hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Matt Thompson to give William Woods a two-run cushion.

The Mustangs scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut into the William Woods lead. The Owls answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and two runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead.

The Mustangs continued to apply pressure. Mt. Mercy scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but could not get any closer.

Senior Tim Stunkel (2-1) earned the win for William Woods. Stunkel worked 4 2/3 innings, allowed eight hits, four runs, walked one and struck out eight. Morrow collected his fourth save of the season in relief. Morrow worked 1 1/3 innings, allowed two hits and struck out two.

Conway went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Morrow was 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Garrett Oliver added two RBI's in the win for William Woods.

Mt. Mercy scored six runs on 12 hits. They committed three errors in the loss. William Woods scored nine runs on 14 hits. They committed one error in the win.

Late inning heroics were needed in game two for William Woods. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Owls scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, and two more in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 4-3 victory.

Tyler Tamayose led-off the bottom of the seventh with a single to right field. Oliver singled to left field advancing pinch runner Kip Batye to third base. Adam Wojciechowski hit a shallow fly ball to right field that was mishandled by the Mustang outfielder. The error scored Batye and moved Oliver to third base. Morrow, who had a save and a home run in game one, delivered a single to right field scoring Oliver.

Morrow (1-0) also took the win in relief for William Woods. Morrow worked one inning and struck out one. Junior starter Angel Mata took a no-decision for William Woods. Mata worked six innings, allowed seven hits, three runs, walked one and struck out five.

Mount Mercy (7-9) scored three runs on seven hits. They committed one error. William Woods (12-3) scored four runs on nine hits.

The Owls and Mustangs will play another doubleheader on Sunday. First-pitch is at 12 noon.

(FULTON, Mo., Mar. 4)--The William Woods University baseball team split a doubleheader with NCAA Division II Missouri University S&T on Wednesday afternoon at Owls Field. The Miners won game one 5-1. The Owls won game two 5-2.

Missouri University S&T took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. The Owls cut the lead on a solo home run by Tyler Tamayose in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Miners added a run in the top of the fifth, and two runs in the top of the seventh to preserve the victory in game one.

Senior Josh Goodin took the loss in game one. Goodin falls to 3-1 on the season. He worked 4 2/3 innings, allowed five hits, three runs, walked three and struck out three.

Tyler Tamayose went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for William Woods in game one.

Brandon Cogan collected the win for the Miners. Eaf Redden went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win.

Missouri University S&T scored five runs on eight hits in the victory. William Woods scored one run on five hits and committed three costly errors in the loss.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, the Owls scored two runs in the bottom of the second, and three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. The Miners scored one run in the sixth, but could not creep any closer.

Junior Nick Wooley collected the win in game two. He improves to 3-0 on the season. Wooley worked five innings, allowed four hits, one run, walked two and struck out eight. Senior Cody Morrow pitched the final 1 2/3innings to collect his third save of the year.

Junior Merrick Conway went 1-for-3 with an RBI for William Woods. Jacob Thames went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the win for the Owls.

Drew Pyles took the loss for the Miners. Zac Helton went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

(TOPEKA, Kans., Feb. 22)--The William Woods University baseball team swept a doubleheader from Doane College (Nebr.) on Sunday afternoon. The Owls won 3-2 and 3-1. The Owls and Tigers met each other in Topeka, Kans., for the doubleheader.

Doane scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead in game one. Both teams went scoreless, until William Woods tied the game in the top of the sixth on a Tyler Tamayose solo home run.

Junior Merrick Conway put the Owls ahead in the top of the seventh inning. Senior Cody Morrow doubled to start the seventh. Conway entered the game as a pinch-hitter doubled. Morrow scored on the extra-base hit to give the Owls the lead, and the victory.

Senior Josh Goodin took the win for the Owls. Goodin (3-0) worked seven innings, allowed six hits, two runs, walked one and struck out nine.

Tamayose went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI's. Sophomore Adam Wojciechowski went 2-for-3 with a double.

The Owls scored three runs on nine hits, and committed one error in the victory. Doane scored two runs on six hits in the loss.

Angel MataWilliam Woods completed the doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 victory in game two. Junior Garrett Oliver put the Owls ahead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single, scoring LJ Watson. The Owls added a run in the bottom of the bottom of the third on a Tamayose RBI single. Conway added an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to preserve the win.

Junior Angel Mata earned the win for William Woods. Mata (2-0) worked 5.1 innings, allowed four hits, one run, no earned runs, walked one and struck out two. Morrow collected his second save of the season for the Owls. Morrow worked the final 1.2 innings allowing one hit.

Sophomore L.J. Watson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the victory. Oliver was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Owls scored three runs on seven hits, and committed two errors in the victory. Doane scored one run on five hits.

William Woods improves to 9-2 on the season. They will return to the diamond on Saturday, February 28th. The Owls will host Central Methodist University at 1 pm at Owls Field in another college baseball doubleheader.

Tim StunkelBaseball Sweeps Avila

(FULTON, Mo., Feb. 20)--The William Woods University baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Avila University on Friday afternoon at Owls Field. The Owls defeated the Eagles 3-2 and 10-0 (6).

The Owls scored one run in the first inning, and two runs in the second inning, to take an early 3-0 lead. Junior Kevin Challoner, senior Cody Morrow, and junior Matt Denney collected an RBI apiece for William Woods.

Senior Tim Stunkel (1-1) pitched the Owls into the sixth inning. He held Avila scoreless through the first five innings. The Eagles scored two runs on two hits in the sixth to cut the lead to one run. Stunkel worked 5.2 innings, allowed four hits, two runs, walked two and struck out five.

Junior Mike Bultitude finished the sixth inning in relief of Stunkel, and pitched a perfect seventh inning to record his first save of the season.

Challoner, Morrow, and Brian Bishop each recorded a hit for the Owls. William Woods scored three runs on three hits. The Owls committed one error. Avila University scored two runs on five hits. The Eagles committed two errors.

The offense came alive for the Owls in game two. William Woods used a five-run fourth inning en route to a 10-0 rout of the Eagles in game two.

Sophomore L.J. Watson started the fourth inning scoring with a two-RBI double, scoring Bishop and Jacob Thames. Junior Merrick Conway followed the double with a two-RBI single, scoring Matt Thompson and Watson. Sophomore Tyler Tamayose concluded the scoring with an RBI ground out, scoring Conway.

Challoner ended the game with a two-RBI double in the sixth inning.

Nick WooleyJunior Nick Wooley (2-0) earned a complete game victory. Wooley allowed one hit (an infield single), walked one and struck out six.

Conway was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI's. Challoner was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI's. Watson and Tamayose each recorded two RBI's.

William Woods scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the win. The Owls improve to 7-2 on the season. Avila falls to 1-4 on the season.

William Woods will return to action on Sunday, February 22nd. the Owls will travel to Topeka, Kans. They will play Doane College at Lake Shawnee Baseball Complex at 3032 SE Beach Terrace. The doubleheader will begin at 2 pm.

Nick Wooley Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Crichton

(MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 14)--The William Woods University baseball team split a pair of games with Crichton College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped the opener 1-4, and won the second game 7-6.

In game one, with the score tied 1-1, the Comets scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break the game open.

Senior Tim Stunkel (0-1) took the loss in game one. Stunkel went five innings, allowed four hits, two runs, walked one and struck out six. Senior Jacob Thames was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

WWU scored one run on five hits and committed one error in game one. CC scored four runs on eight hits and committed one error in the win.

The Owls and Comets played another nail-biter in game two. Crichton took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Owls answered with four runs in the top of the second inning. The Comets tied the game 4-4 by scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning. William Woods took the lead for good with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Junior Nick Wooley (1-0) earned the win for William Woods. Wooley went four innings, allowed five hits, four runs, walked two and struck out five. Senior Cody Morrow collected his first save of the season by working the final two and 2/3 innings. Morrow allowed one run on one hit.

Sophomore Adam Wojciechowski went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win for WWU. Merrick Conway, Matt Thompson and Kip Batye each had a RBI for the Owls.

William Woods (5-2) scored seven runs on 11 hits. Crichton College (1-2) scored six runs on nine hits and committed one error.

The Owls will return to action on February 21st and 22nd. They will host Doane College in a four-game series.

Merrick Conway Baseball Streaks by Comets

(MEMPHIS, Tenn., Feb. 13)--The William Woods University baseball team defeated Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn., on Friday. The Owls defeated the Comets 16-1.

Sporting a 3-0 lead, the Owls scored six runs in the fourth inning to cruise to the victory. The Owls added seven more runs in the sixth.

Senior Josh Goodin (2-0) took the win for the Owls. He worked five innings, allowed four hits, one run, struck out seven and walked three. Sophomore Grant Miller worked the final two innings for William Woods. Miller allowed three hits.

Junior Merrick Conway went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Tyler Tamayose was 1-for-1 with a grand slam and five RBI. Junior Garrett Oliver went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

WWU (4-1) scored 16 runs on 10 hits and committed one error. CC (0-1) scored one run on seven hits and committed five errors. The Crichton pitching staff allowed 17 walks in the game.

The Owls and Comets will return to the diamond tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.

Kevin ChallonerBaseball Earns Split With Ashford

(FULTON, Mo., Feb. 8)--The William Woods University baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Ashford University (Iowa) on Sunday afternoon at Owls Field. The Owls lost the opener 4-1, and won the final game of the four-game series 11-1.

The Owls and Saints were tied 1-1 heading into the seventh inning in the first game of the afternoon. The Saints scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead. Junior Mike Bultitude struck out the first two hitters to start the inning. Bultitude would surrender a walk and a single before allowing a two-RBI double by Brian Cummings. Austin Poindexter added a RBI double, scoring Cummings to give the Saints a 4-1 lead.

Bultitude (0-1) took the loss in relief for the Owls. Junior Matt Thompson was 1-for-4 with a RBI in the loss for the Owls.

William Woods struck first in game two of the doubleheader. Kevin Challoner drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the first inning to give the Owls the early lead.

Ashford (1-3) tied the game in the top of the third on a RBI single by Tyler Sukut. The Owls would answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take control.

William Woods added two runs in the fourth, and five runs in the bottom of the sixth to ten-run the Saints.

The Owls open the 2009 season 3-1. They will return to action on Friday and Saturday, February 13th and 14th, at Crichton College.

Adam Wojciechowski Baseball Opens With Two Wins

(FULTON, Mo., Feb. 7)--The William Woods University baseball team opened the 2009 season with two victories over visiting Ashford University (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon. The Owls won 18-3 and 4-3 at Owls Field.

The Owls scored 12 runs in the bottom of the third inning in game one to blow the game open. Sophomore Adam Wojciechowski hit a two-run home run to pull the Owls within a run of the visiting Saints. Junior Garrett Oliver added a three-RBI triple in the inning to put the game out of reach.

Senior Josh Goodin (1-0) collected the win in game one. Goodin worked four innings in the victory. He allowed four hits, three runs, and struck out eight. Wojciechowski went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI. Matt Denney, and L.J. Watson added three RBI for the Owls. Oliver paced the Owls with a four RBI effort.

William Woods used some late-game heroics to earn a 4-3 win in game two. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, WWU scored two runs to tie the game. Wojciechowski added to his impressive day with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give the Owls the lead for good.

WWU received two good pitching performances in game two. Junior Nick Wooley took a no-decision for the Owls, but worked 4 1/3 innings while striking out nine. Junior Tyler Anderson (1-0) earned the win in relief by working 2 2/3 innings . He allowed two hits, zero runs, and struck out three. In the top of the fifth, with runners on second and third and one out, Anderson recorded a strike out, and induced a fly-out to work out of the jam.

Wojciechowski went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI. Kevin Challoner and Tyler Tamayose also added a RBI apiece in the victory for the Owls.

The Owls (2-0) and Saints (0-2) will complete the four-game series on Sunday. The first-pitch is scheduled for 12 noon at Owl field.
