Larry York took over the reins of the athletic department at William Woods in January, 2000. York has made his mark on the Owls' athletic program in big ways.
When asked to list the things that are vital in developing a top notch athletic program he said, "I believe in identifying the factors vital for success and then consistently working to improve those areas. Those areas include retention of athletes for four years, a superior strength training program, knowledgeable and hard working coaches with charisma, athletes willing to go the extra mile to be successful, and an adequate budget to put ourselves in a position to bechampions."Mr. York was the recipient of the 2006-07 American Midwest Conference and NAIA Region V Athletic Director of the Year award.
Prior to his stint at William Woods, York was the Athletic Director at Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, MO. York came to Jefferson City in 1972 as Instructor of Mathematics, Head Cross Country Coach, and Assistant Track Coach. After four years he became the Head Track Coach and Girl's Athletic Director. In 1978 York was voted the 4A Track Coach-of-the-Year in Missouri. In 1980 he was promoted to head the Mathematics Department at Jefferson City High School.

In 1990, York was named the Athletic Director for boys and girls athletics. In 1986 he was inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame. During the 90s, Jefferson City athletics won 10 state championships and was considered one of the strongest athletic programs in Missouri. York retired in January of 2000 to accept the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at William Woods University.
York is a native of Quincy, IL and graduated from Quincy High School where he was an All-State football player.Larry York was inducted into the Quincy High School Hall of Fame in 2001.
York went on to play football at the University of Missouri.He graduated with a B.S in Mathematics/Biology and Physiology Education.He later received his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Lincoln University in 1980.
He and his wife Becky have been married for 40 years. They have two children, Bob and Rudy, and five grandchildren.
