Using Saved Searches to Enhance Your Research

Setting Up Saved Searches

Looking for a way to find out the newest research and news in your discipline or field of interest? Let the library catalog and research databases do the work for you by setting up saved searches. Almost any search that can be done in these tools can be saved and periodic messages can be sent to you with the latest articles and books.

ARTHUR

Any search that can be done in the Arthur Library Catalog or MOBIUS Catalog can be saved.  Once a search is saved, you can easily access it and run it again any time.  You can also request to be notified if any new items are added to the library's collection that fit the search criteria.

How to Set up a Preferred or Saved Search
  1. Access the William Woods section of the Arthur Library Catalog.
  2. Click on the View Your Library Account link near the bottom of the screen.
  3. Log into your library account.  If you're not sure how to do this, contact the Library Circulation Desk.
  4. Click on the blue Search the Catalog button inside your record.
  5. Run the search you wish to save for the future.  Once you see a screen of results, a button entitled "Save your search?" should appear to the right of the search box.  Click on this button anytime you wish to save a search.

Once you have your search(es) saved, click on the blue Patron Record button at the top of the screen (assuming you are still logged into your account).  Click on the blue Preferred Searches button inside your Patron Record to see the searches you saved.  From here, you can remove any search, mark any search for email updates, and run any search again.  If you have any questions, or need any assistance, contact Reference Librarian Tena Edwards.

Article and Information Databases

Some of the databases that the Library subscribes to offer features such as personal accounts where you can save searches and citations and place interlibrary loan requests.  The features available depend on the database vendor, and may change from time to time.  If you have any questions, or need any assistance, contact Reference Librarian Tena Edwards.
