Horse Show Costs

Participation in horse show competitions is a vital part of the equestrian studies experience. The level of participation is tailored to each individual student’s needs. William Woods participates in both on and off campus horse shows. Costs to be anticipated in conjunction with curricular and co-curricular involvement in horse shows are estimated as follows:

ON CAMPUS HORSE SHOWS
Students enrolled in 300 and 400 level applied riding courses are required to participate in one horse show on campus per semester. All other participation is optional. Any student wishing to will have the opportunity to show on campus. Each concentration will have at least one on campus show per semester.

OFF CAMPUS, NON-RECOGNIZED HORSE SHOWS
These shows are usually one to two days and held within a one hundred mile radius of campus. Students do not incur hotel expenses. Any student wishing to will have the opportunity to show in an off campus, nonrecognized horse show. Each concentration usually attends one to three of these shows per semester.

OFF CAMPUS, NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED HORSE SHOWS
Shows such as the American Royal, Quarter Horse World, or Oklahoma Centennial span four to six days. Each concentration usually attends one of these shows per semester, although participation depends on student interest and horse availability. Due to the highly competitive nature of these events, showing in them is sometimes limited to upperclass students.
