What to Bring
Hanging out Jumping

Riders must wear boots for riding and working around the horses. Riders must also ride in long pants. Complete riding outfits are not required for the William Woods Summer Riding Program, but riding clothes are recommended if you have them. Proper riding clothes make it easier for you to ride and for your instructor to see your form. The ideal riding attire for lessons in each seat is listed below:

Huntseat
Boots, breeches, hard hat and gloves

Paddock boots, jodhpurs and chaps may also be worn

Hard hats required

Saddle Seat

Jod boots, jodhpurs and gloves

Hard hats are not required for saddle seat, but strongly suggested

Western

Western cut jeans and boots, gloves optional

Hard hats are not required for western, but strongly suggested

All riders should plan to wear comfortable short sleeved shirts as the weather promises to be warm. Bring a belt to keep your shirt tucked in while riding (once again, to help your instructor see your form). All riders will be riding once or twice a day. Bring enough clothes to get you through all of these lessons. A HARD HAT IS REQUIRED IF YOU WILL BE JUMPING.  A hard hat is suggested for all riders.

It is important that you have your name on all of your belongings. Many participants will have the same equipment and clothes. Yours will need to be labeled so as not to become lost or mixed-up. The William Woods Summer Riding Program will not be responsible for misplaced, lost or stolen items.

There will be time during your session when you will not have to be in your riding attire. We will be watching videos and demonstrations or perhaps going off campus on field trips. Casual pants or shorts are recommended, and when you will not be handling the horses, tennis shoes are fine.

Residential participants for Sessions I and II will need to bring their own bedding (twin-sized bed) or sleeping bag and pillow. They will also need to bring towels, washcloths and soap. Also, pack an alarm clock! Residential participants may wish to bring a radio or tape player.

Extra spending money will be needed for the soda machines, laundry, the University Logo Store, or stops made along the way on field trips.
