Equestrian Studies @ The Woods

Our Graduates

The William Woods University Equestrian Division is very proud of her graduates.  Equestrian Studies graduates are taking a prominent place in the horse industry in a variety of ways.

Sarah

 

 

Sarah Dyer, graduate of 2006, has joined forces with another William Woods graduate, Leigh Anne Romans, in Lee's Summit Missouri, teaching lessons and show coaching at Showtime Equestrian Center.  She is also a private trainer of horses on the side.  Her passion is with the kids, however, and she has a substantial and active program with lots of shows every year.

Lucky Clover Tack

 

Rachael (Schoon) Paul (2006) is currently pursuing a Master's of Business Administration degree with William Woods University and serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Equestrian Division at WWU. She is also working on designing her own line of custom leather items, such as headstalls, belts and spur straps. She hopes to one day open a tack shop.

Georgie & Tori

 

Elise Hagenow, a 2008 Graduate, and Barbe Smith of Cascade Stables in New Orleans, LA recently took nine horse and rider combinations to the National Academy Championship Finals in Murfreesboro, TN (October 31st-November 1st).  Their riders went home with many top 10 ribbons. Riders from Cascade Stables won both National and Reserve National Championships in the 7&8 year old walk and trot pleasure and equitation division. They also came home with a Reserve National Championship in the Adult W/T/C Equtiation division.

Jon McCarthy (2007) has his own horse photography business and has been shooting for Hunter/Jumper, Mini, Pinto and Morgan shows. He was invited by Howard Schatzberg to work at National Show Horse Finals and Morgan Grand Nationals. Saddlebred Museum

 

 

Lynn Zaske Morris is the Gift Shop Manager for the American Saddlebred Museum. She was a Saddle Seat graduate from the mid-1980’s.

Ashley Stannard, a 2007 graduate, is the assistant trainer at Long Farms in Tucson, AZ. She rides and shows for clients at "A" Shows all over the country. Here she is pictured with a fellow WWU Alum "Fiona".

Hillary

Hillary Clark is a 2006 graduate of WWU.  She works for the Hooved Animal Humane Society in Woodstock, IL as Program Director.  They promote the humane treatment of hooved animals through education, legislation, investigation and intervention.  All of the animals at their farm have come to them because of prior abuse or neglect.  They currently have over 50 horses and all of them are available for adoption.  As Program Director Hillary coordinates adoptions, coordinates investigations, testifies in court on the animals behalf, manages the publication of their magazine 'Hoofprints', writes articles for Hoofprints and other publications, and coordinates events and fundraisers for the organization.

Jojo

 

 

 

Jojo Levy is a 2007 graduate. She is now working for Kimberden Farms in Ocala, FL as an assistant. Kimberden Farms is a full-service Hunter/Jumper barn with clients from short-stirrup riders to grand prix. Pictured is Jojo on her horse Tom.

Mary

 

 

Mary Spielbusch is a 2008 graduate of William Woods with a degree in Equine Administration. She works at Agririsk Insurance agency in Stilwell, KS as an administrative assistant. In a few months she will be taking the test to become licensed to sell horse insurance in the Mortality/Theft department.

Mary

 

 

 

William Woods University equestrian science graduate, Mary Marcum Orr, achieved one of the highest honors in the American Saddlebred world this past August when she won the Three-Gaited World’s Grand Championship title aboard CH Our Charming Lady. 

Today she and her husband are working together training horses at their new High Caliber Stables in Kernersville, North Carolina.

LeighAnn

Leigh Anne Romans, owner of Showtime Equestrian Center, in Lee's Summit, MO, manages the 50-stall boarding facility, while continuing to train horses and running a small breeding program.   Although at the beginning she trained primarily Arabians, she was fortunate to have in her training program a talented 1/2 Andalusian named Lone Star Bravio.  In 2008 she bought the purebred stallion KA Tabasco, and had a great show season with him and Lone Star, as well as with several other purebred Andalusians.  She has successfully developed horses in Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Show Hack, and Driving.  Showtime Equestrian Center also has a busy lesson program that is run by another WWU graduate, Sarah Dyer.

Kristen Herrick

 

 

 

This is Kristin Herrick, a 1998 WWU grad.  She is originally from Siren, Wisconsin, and rode western as her main seat.  She now is the assistant trainer for Vicky Holt, NSBA leading exhibitor of AQHA Hunter Under Saddle horses.  Kristin now resides in Argyle, Texas.

Fawn McDaniel



 

Meet Fawn McDaniel, a 2006 graduate. Fawn is the proud winner of the 2006 Morgan Grand National and World Championship in the Working Hunters with Melendy Cash Bonus. "Curly" is a product of Fawn's family farm where she trains and teaches in Columbia, MO.

Wyoming, MI and her Swedish warmblood gelding, Brisanz. Since her introduction to dressage during her first year at WWU by Karen Pautz, Kathy has worked her way up the levels. She earned her USDF silver medal (Fourth Level/Prix St. Georges) in 1998, and is two scores away from a USDF gold medal (Int. I, II/Grand Prix). She is self-employed as a full-time dressage instructor, teaching between 40-50 students at various levels in the greater West Michigan area.

Meet Kendra Weis, professional trainer and judge. Kendra judges for the American Quarter Horse Association, the Pony of the America's Association, the Pinto Horse Association and the National Snaffle Bit Association. She is the 2002 Missouri Quarter Horse Association President. Kendra's most recent and notable accomplishment is training the 2001 AQHA World Champion Amateur Western Riding Horse.
