My ASL Philosophy

I believe that American Sign Language (ASL) is one of the most beautiful and unique languages.  The reason for this is because ASL is a visual language with its own distinctive principles and grammar rules comparable to other languages.  American Sign Language has its own signing parameters such as handshapes, location, movements, facial expressions, and body movements that help the signer to convey its meaning; it is not simply a manual version of English like many people are lead to believe.  There is also a myth that many people believe: That only Deaf people use ASL - but that isn't true! Anyone can take the opportunity to learn and understand our unique language.  Our ASL/Interpreting program teaches our students like you to develop into a more proficient ASL user, and it also gives our students an opportunity to learn to become an ASL interpreter.  We encourage people to learn ASL, not only to become an interpreter but to understand and appreciate Deaf people.

It is a privilege and a pleasure for me to be an ASL tutor in one of the best ASL/Interpreting program in the country.  I hope you will enjoy the opportunity to experience the deeper understanding and knowledge of its language and culture with its rich heritage and tradition that the Deaf people have deeply honored and carried over the years.
